I know I live in Florida and I know the beach is...beachy, but if I get one more request for photos on the beach, I might let the rip tides take me under.

Why do SO MANY people want photos of themselves on the beach? Seriously - I'm asking you a serious question. What is so AWESOME about it? The sand? The water? The hairy men in Speedos that I end up spending countless hours editing out of your family photos?

I guess I kind of feel like it's a bit cliche. Ya know? Like you can't think of anything more exciting? You can't think of a cool graffiti wall somewhere? Or neat city street? SOMETHING? ANYTHING! Nope! The beach. Sand and water. The ol' nowhere-to-park-walk-5,000-miles-in-the-heat-complain-about-how-many-people-are-there BEACH!

And then, the same beach-lovers who couldn't imagine a family photo that didn't include ocean water, are afraid to get their feet wet and complain about sitting in the sand. Grrrr...

Of course, none of the subjects shown here were complainers in any way! It's just that I want people to think outside the box, I guess. Maybe, as the photographer, that is something I need to work on.

Maybe I should be pushing them to try something they wouldn't normally think to try! I think one of the things I need to work on is sharing my vision for a shoot and then standing firmly behind it. I do tend to back-down to make the "customer" happy, but if, in the end, they love their photos and they have something a bit more unique, they may be even happier than they are with their classic beach photos. Who knows....
All I know is this:
1.) I've seen too many professional photographers [who everyone *loves*] go to the same location over and over again for shoot after shoot and it gets very cookie-cutter-looking.
2.) If I'm asked to do another beach shoot, I might bury myself in the sand before we leave and ask my assistant [sister] to cover my head and leave me for dead!
